A 5-1 loss to the Avalanche in the opener could have dealt a disheartening blow to the psyche of a team facing six more games away from home, but the Hawks instead used it as a springboard to reel off six consecutive victories to become the first team in the league to reach 20 wins. In the good-news department, the Hawks regained the services of center Michal Handzus, who joined the team in Vancouver after missing 14 games with an upper-body injury and was inserted into the middle of the second line between Brandon Saad and Patrick Kane. The defenseman didn't appear in a game during the trip but appears good to go when the Hawks return to action Tuesday night against the Stars after sitting out 20 contests. Late-game opportunities: He didn't don a cape and Clark Kent glasses a la the 2012 All-Star Game skills competition in Ottawa, but Kane came to the rescue with the Hawks looking down and out against the Flames on Wednesday night.
